President pitches $22 million for ONC and Health IT in dead-on-arrival budget

February 10, 2016

From Healthcare IT News:

Though President Barack Obama’s proposed 2017 budget died almost as fast as it arrived at Congress on Tuesday, the chief executive’s final proposal included millions in healthcare spending to bolster quality programs, improve interoperability and fight rising pharmaceutical prices. Obama’s budget would have given the Office for the National Coordinator, which manages the government’s health information technology programs, an extra $22 million in 2017 to support interoperability programs.”

Ain’t Congress grand?

Though, truth be told, perhaps it’s time for the industry to push off from government oversight and innovate in ways “outside the box” that can lead to breakthroughs and improvement for the future.

We’ve come a long way since Pres. Bush singed the HITECH act into law, now’s the time to let technology firms pave the way toward the new modern healthcare system.
