Integration and Meaningful Use: Customer Survey Results

March 19, 2014

At the monthly Corepoint Health User Group meeting last week, participants responded to a survey regarding utilization of Corepoint Integration Engine for integration related to Meaningful Use. The survey results indicate a preference for provider facilities to utilize an integration engine for Meaningful Use objectives illustrated in the above graph.

Three-quarters of the respondents indicated that they are using the integration engine when returning electronic results to a physician. This is a new menu objective for eligible hospitals in Meaningful Use Stage 2. The criteria states that eligible hospitals must provide structured electronic lab results to eligible professionals more than 20% of the time.

Interesting note: In a 2013 Health Affairs report, titled, “Hospital Electronic Health Information Exchange Grew Substantially In 2008–12,” which included survey data from 2,836 hospitals, 53% of hospitals exchanged lab results in 2012. Last week’s survey shows that up to 75% of Corepoint Health customers are exchanging this data.

Up to two-thirds of the Corepoint Health survey participants use the integration engine for public health reporting related to Meaningful Use. These objectives were already in place in Stage 1 of Meaningful Use, and providers must continue to demonstrate successful ongoing transmission of this data.

Almost a third of the participants are gearing up to meet the transfer of care requirements of Meaningful Use Stage 2 utilizing the integration engine. This core objective for Stage 2 now requires 10% of summary of care documents be sent electronically.

For more information on why it is critical to use a 2014 Edition certified integration engine for these workflows, please see this related blog.
