HL7 Escape Sequences

The most common use of HL7 escape sequences is to escape the HL7 defined delimiter characters. The following are examples.

HL7 Interface

An HL7 interface includes an export endpoint for the sending application, an import endpoint for the receiving application, and a method of moving the data.

HL7 ORU Message

The HL7 ORU-R01 message transmits observations and results from the producing system (LIS, EKG) to the ordering system (EMR, physician office application).
