The future of telemedicine? Apple announces CareKit, an app toolkit for hospitals

Read the full article at: mobihealthnews.com

At an event in Cupertino today, Apple announced that it would take its ResearchKit framework and spin off a new, similar offering called CareKit, an open source toolkit for hospitals and health systems. CareKit will launch with two applications: one for home monitoring of Parkinson’s and one for post-surgical discharge.

Really useful technology offerings here from Apple that really could transform what we call “telemedicine” today. These apps actually provide useful information back to their caregivers in near real time. Even more surprising, perhaps, is that Apple has made CareKit open source, which is a dramatic change in direction for their products.

These innovative offerings, combined with new FHIR-based apps, will really move the needle forward in patient-facing technology and patient-generated health data.
