Corepoint Health Customers Among Healthcare IT News’ 2014 Best Hospital IT Departments

We love to celebrate the success of our customers. Their daily work improves access to health data – where and when it is needed – that improves patient care and truly saves lives. I can’t think of IT in any other industry that has such a direct impact on people’s lives as those who work in health IT.

Corepoint Health would like to give a round of applause to all organizations listed in the Healthcare IT News 2014 Best Hospital IT Departments, which was released Sept. 29.

We are particularly proud to get the opportunity to partner with five health IT departments on the list:

  • Carolinas HealthCare System – #3 Super Hospital IT Department
  • Roper St. Francis Healthcare – #4 Large Hospital IT Department
  • Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System – #2 Medium Hospital IT Department
  • Calvert Health System – #9 Medium Hospital IT Department
  • Thibodaux Regional Medical Center- #3 Small Hospital IT Department

Carolinas HealthCare System

#3 Super Hospital IT Department
North Carolina (more than 900 locations)
IT Staff: 717; Licensed Beds: 7,460

Read: Carolinas HealthCare takes on Superman with the total IT team approach

From the Healthcare IT News article:

“With more than 900 locations and upwards of 60,000 employees, Carolinas HealthCare System gives new meaning to the phrase ‘go big or go home.’ It’s only fitting then, that its IT department is making a considerable impact – implementing solutions that coincide with the executive strategies of the system at large while keeping an eye trained to the ever-changing healthcare climate.

“It’s this integrative approach along with a total teamwork mindset that has played a key role in Carolinas’ IT success, according to Craig Richardville, CIO for the sprawling system, which happens to be the largest healthcare delivery network in the Southeast.

“’One of our secrets to success is to be extremely collaborative and take the total team approach,’ Richardville said.”

Roper St. Francis Healthcare

#4 Large Hospital IT Department, Charleston, S.C.
IT Staff: 149, Licensed Beds: 657

Melinda Cardell, interim vice president and CIO at Roper St. Francis Healthcare, encourages staff to find a work-life balance that keeps them happy and productive, even though finding this balance may be difficult considering the number of ambitious projects Roper St. Francis has achieved and the number of projects have planned for the future.

From the Healthcare IT News article:

“Freshness” is a word you often hear in the food business. But given the amount of change underway in healthcare, and given how pressure can take a toll on staff members, you could say it’s a concern for health IT managers, too.”

“According to Cardell, the organization’s latest efforts have included network infrastructure upgrades and a new data center; up next is a new EMR.”

Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System

#2 Medium Hospital IT Department, Mattoon, Ill.
IT Staff: 30, Licensed Beds: 128

Maggie Ratliff, vice president and CIO, says that positive relationships within the organization are a key key to their success. Team members are encouraged to always think about the end users’ and the experiences they have when using technology.

From the Healthcare IT News article:

“That positive ground is going to be important to continue as the IT team leads an implementation of a new core hospital information system, helps clinicians attest for the second phase of the meaningful use program, and preps for the October 2015 ICD-10 conversion.”

Calvert Health System

#9 Medium Hospital IT Department, Calvert County, Md.
IT Staff: 30, Licensed Beds: 113

Read: Calvert Health System promotes wellness

From the Healthcare IT News article:

“To meet those incentives the health system’s 30-person IT team has been hard at work these past few years, connecting hospitals and physician practices with a community health information exchange and computerized order entry. Also, digital radiography and voice recognition systems have sped up image turnaround time by 20 percent.

“’Patients put their trust in caregivers,’ CIO Ed Grogan said, ‘and our caregivers put their trust in us, to make sure they have reliable, meaningful usable systems.’”

Thibodaux Regional Medical Center

#3 Small Hospital IT Department, Thibodaux, La.
IT Staff: 13, Licensed Beds: 180

Read: Thibodaux recognizes employees

From the Healthcare IT News article:

“CIO Bernie Clement and Thibodaux Regional Medical Center are on a roll, winning a third consecutive Healthcare IT News ‘Best Hospital IT Departments’ award. And while he has earned the right to talk at length about what he has done to secure this noteworthy achievement, he prefers to give credit to his employer and his staff.

“’We have a great mix of young and no-so-young; clinical and technical,’ he says. ‘Everyone feeds off of that diversity and it keeps the not-so-young very open minded. Our young bunch is incredibly mature beyond their years – they don’t go cowboy in an attempt to fix things and they understand the value of customer service.’”
