Course Information

This session provides Rhapsody developers with an introduction to Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and practical approaches for building real-world FHIR workflows within Rhapsody. It begins with key FHIR concepts and RESTful web services, then progresses into applying those principles to develop and enhance integrations that connect traditional HL7 messaging with modern interoperability standards.

Through hands-on exercises and guided examples, participants will gain experience creating, updating, and querying FHIR resources while integrating them with existing healthcare systems.

What you will learn:

  • Core concepts of FHIR, including resources, RESTful interactions, and common use cases
  • Fundamentals of REST web services and how they support FHIR APIs
  • How to convert HL7 messages into FHIR resources (e.g., Patient and Visit)
  • Techniques for creating and updating FHIR resources using POST and PUT
  • How to query FHIR servers using identifiers like MRN
  • Approaches for integrating FHIR data back into HL7 workflows
  • Best practices for building scalable, real-world interoperability solutions in Rhapsody
