The customer:
Experity
Experity has earned its reputation as the number one partner for urgent care clinics in the U.S. by staying at the forefront of the urgent care market and technology. Through its software and services, the company helps urgent care clinics streamline operations, improve the patient experience, and optimize revenue. Experity’s dynamic, easy-to-use, patient-centered EMR/PM solutions connect urgent care clinics with other care providers across the healthcare ecosystem for better visibility into essential patient records.
The challenge:
Connecting providers throughout the healthcare ecosystem
Experity’s urgent care clinic clients see patients on demand – when time is of the essence, often when their regular provider is closed or they are unable to get in right away. To best care for patients, urgent care providers need access to details about current medications or conditions, but these records likely exist in another healthcare system’s EMR.
When urgent care clinicians can’t access records, a provider may need to order wasteful duplicate tests, and a patient may not get the best care or outcome.
Experity’s DocuTAP platform helps urgent care centers connect with patient records elsewhere in the healthcare ecosystem. However, every provider uses disparate formats and standards such as HL7 v2, JSON, and XML, plus transport methods including TCP/IP, VPN, and FTP as well as web service endpoints for REST and SOAP calls.
Experity’s DocuTAP needed true interoperability to deliver clinical documentation where and when it’s needed most to be able to help its clients deliver on-demand healthcare.
The solution:
Corepoint Integration Engine
Experity turned to Corepoint Integration Engine. Built on IHE profiles, Corepoint fosters secure interoperability between Experity DocuTAP and CareQuality, Surescripts, and other networks used by the company’s client clinics.
Corepoint converts inbound message formats into the required outbound message format to be understood by each system. For example, Experity DocuTAP can receive an inbound message in HL7 and map it to an outbound X12 message or other format.
Experity also uses the Multi Request Receiver (MRR), a standard feature of the Corepoint Web Services module. MRR can be enabled and configured to allow as many as 100 simultaneous inbound requests.
With this multithreading capability, Experity DocuTAP takes advantage of multiple threads per endpoint connection, allowing the processing of 50+ requests simultaneously and thousands of messages per day.
Experity’s DocuTAP team leaned on Corepoint’s deep experience with IHE standards and schemas to create automated workflows that launch when a patient books an appointment.
Corepoint workflows empower Experity DocuTAP to aggregate all available clinical documentation about the patient, including CCDAs and visit reports. Corepoint delivers them in a format that can be understood by a tablet-wielding physician. After an encounter, Experity’s DocuTAP can send a visit report to the patient’s primary care provider.
The results:
Better continuity of care, faster time-to-revenue
With Corepoint as the integration engine, Experity’s DocuTAP urgent care clinic clients now exchange thousands of messages a day across disparate health systems.
More accessible patient records help urgent care providers deliver better care and visit summaries improve continuity of care. Meanwhile, more complete and comprehensive data helps clinics accelerate time-to-revenue.
Corepoint also gives Experity DocuTAP the agility to tackle new challenges.
For example, as the COVID-19 pandemic began, Corepoint quickly began connecting to public health department APIs to send essential test data, no matter what format the departments required. Corepoint manages vaccination data reporting similarly.
As Interface Analyst Paige Bagneschi says, “Corepoint Integration Engine helps us assist our clients meet the demands of the healthcare industry, so they can focus on patient care.”
“We all have the goal of sharing information across hospital systems. Corepoint makes it a reality and connects our clients securely to other organizations to help power patient-centered healthcare.”
